Maurice Fleming, age 89, better known as Mo to friends and family, passed away after health complications on October 16th, 2021.He was born to the late John and Catherine (Tierney) Fleming of South Boston during August of 1932 as the youngest of 5. Mo was a graduate of Weymouth High School. Shortly after graduating, Mo joined the National guard where he served for two years and later joined the United States Air Force where he served for four.  Following his military service, he worked odd jobs throughout Boston and along the South Shore of Massachusetts. While working at the Quincy Shipyard, he met his late wife Patricia (Griffin) Fleming. After many bowling dates and late-night drives, the two settled down and had their three daughters. In 1965, he started his 33-year career with Bay State Gas in the Street Department as a Lead Gas Fitter Tech until his retirement in 1998. Here he would meet lifelong friends with whom he’d continue to enjoy monthly breakfasts with, even in retirement. They were better known as the Gang of Bay State Marauders. Having been born in Boston, as well as having played baseball himself, Mo’s love and enthusiasm for the sport spread to all those around him. Mo was also a movie buff whose favorite genres were war films and westerns, especially those of Audie Murphy and John Wayne. A car enthusiast, as well, he had an amazing talent to recognize the model, make, and date of any antique vehicle he saw. Although unsuspecting due to his reserved and shy nature, Mo’s quick wit garnered love from family and friends alike. Mo was a devout catholic and will be remembered most importantly for his generosity, kindness, and selflessness. He took pride in caring for his family and instilled a sense of familial love and responsibility in both his children and grandchildren. He is an adored father to his three daughters who survive him: Maura Fleming, of Middleboro, Colleen (Fleming) Calogero of East Bridgewater, and Kathleen Fleming of Middleboro. Alongside his daughters, he is survived by three loving and grateful grandchildren, John Walker of Middleboro; Michael Fleming of Middleboro and Patricia Calogero of East Bridgewater. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He is predeceased by his brother John Fleming of Randolph; sister Evelyn (Fleming, McLaughlin) Ryan of Carver; sister Mildred (Fleming) Connolly of West Bridgewater, sister Rita (Fleming) Pacheco of Rockland. Visitation for Mo will be held on Thursday October 28, 2021, from 5:00-8:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 29th at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church 340 Center Street, Middleboro MA.
