Melinda Joy Wood, age 65, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at her home in Lakeville, Massachusetts, following a courageous battle with cancer. A lung cancer survivor for many years, Melinda faced her most recent diagnosis with grace and fortitude.
Born on September 18, 1960, in Dayton, Tennessee, she was the loving daughter of the late Jack and Wanda (Denton) Patton. Melinda was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Lisa Crabtree, and held a special place in her heart for the many friends who supported her throughout her illness.
Melinda radiated warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was a devoted wife to Joseph Wood, a cherished aunt, and a caring stepmother. Her capacity for compassion was evident in her willingness to lend a hand to those in need, reflecting her generous spirit.
An avid shopper and a skilled cook, Melinda loved cheering for the New England Patriots and traveling to new places. Her family and friends were often graced by her enthusiasm, especially during cherished moments spent with her beloved pets, Pookie and Holly. Melinda dedicated a significant part of her career to the Salvation Army and Talbots Clothing Store, where her friendly demeanor and work ethic shone brightly.
Melinda is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Wood; her sisters, Angie and Sherry Boynton; her best friend, Tina; and numerous close family members and friends who will remember her beautiful spirit and infectious smile with deep fondness.
A private celebration of life will be held in her honor on November 1, 2025, allowing loved ones to gather and remember Melinda's profound impact on their lives. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice in Melinda's memory.
Melinda Joy Wood will be deeply missed but will always remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
