Paul Anthony Scolamiero, age 85, loving husband for 64 years of Elizabeth A. (Brown) Scolamiero, passed away on Wednesday June 22, 2022, at his home in Middleboro, MA, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Quincy, MA, on Saturday January 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anne (Loveday) Scolamiero. Paul grew up in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School. As a young man Paul would sell newspapers in Quincy Square and he did very well. He would spend some of his newspaper money to buy some sweet treats from the local bakery. He then took a position with Elm Farms Grocery store, working his way up to produce manager. This is also where he met his loving wife, Elizabeth. After many years at Elm Farms, he moved on to work at PH Mechanical where he earned his pipe fitter certificate. As a pipefitter, Paul saw the inner workings of many iconic Boston landmarks like Boston Symphony Hall, Harvard Medical School, and many more. He worked with PH Mechanical until he suffered a work injury which ended this career. After a short respite, he started a job as the sexton at Christ Church in Quincy where he worked for many years. After some time, he decided to start his own handy man business which is where he was the happiest. As his own boss he was able to care for his elderly aunt and mother until their passing, a testament of his devotion to his family. In the summer of 2002, he lovingly cared for his granddaughter Olivia while her sister Sophia and mother were traveling back and forth to Floating Hospital for Children for Sophia’s cancer treatment. This went on for 2 and a half years until her passing. Paul was devastated with the passing of his granddaughter, sweet Sophia in December of 2004. Throughout all of this, he felt he needed to do something to help the children staying at the Floating Hospital. Paul began selling items collected from his handyman business at yard-sales in his driveway. He would tell any customer who would listen about the child who inspired him to do this great deed. All of the money raised from these yard-sales was donated to the Oncology Clinic at Boston’s Floating Hospital for Children. Paul proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves for six years and was a jack of all trades from carpentry, that he learned from his father, to electrical and plumbing which was self-taught. He also loved to pass on his knowledge to his children who are very capable at home repairs thanks to him. While living in Braintree where he raised his children, he was well known by the neighborhood kids as “Mr. S”. He was always working on yard projects and would invite the kids to jump in and help and everyone was usually rewarded for their hard work with a trip to get an ice cream cone. He loved to go on bike rides and would invite any kids that wanted to join, and these trips usually ended with an ice cream. Paul was a devote Catholic and was a member of St. John’s Church in Quincy until he and Elizabeth moved to Middleboro where he attended daily mass at Sacred Heart Church. In addition to his loving wife Elizabeth, Paul is survived by his sons Michael Scolamiero, Stephen Scolamiero, and David Scolamiero, daughters Teresa Annis, and Diane LaFrancis and her husband Brent, fourteen adoring grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, brother Robert Scolamiero and his wife Suzanne, and sister-in-law Claudia. Paul was predeceased by his granddaughter Sophia, brother Dennis Scolamiero, daughter in law Jill Scolamiero, and son in law Mark Annis.
