Paul Wright, Sr. Obituary

MIDDLEBOROUGH - Paul Arnold Wright, Sr., 85, died peacefully on November 14, 2023, at the Nemasket Healthcare Center, in Middleborough, MA. Paul was born on Tuesday, July 19, 1938, the son of Charles (Kiel, Germany) and Mary Jane (MacDonald) Wright (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia). Survivors include his three sons: Paul A. Wright, Jr. of Marquette, MI, Dean C. Wright (Kristal Lima) of Lakeville, MA, and Eric W. Wright of Worland, WY. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Benjamin A. Wright of Bozeman, MT, Bethany A. L. Wright of Sheboygan, WI, Christian P. Wright of Las Vegas, NV, and Amelia Lima of Lakeville, MA. Paul is also survived by his sisters Jean Walter and Nancy Pierro. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Charles, Dottie, Pearl, John, Norman, Warren, Lawrence, Elizabeth, Donald, and Barbara), and his loving wife, Margaret (Smith) Wright. Paul worked very hard his whole life, starting on the family farm, the 2nd youngest of 13 children. He served in the United States Navy for four years. It wasn’t long after Paul met the love of his life, Margaret “Midge” Smith. Together, they raised a family and became an integral part of the community in Middleboro, MA. Paul took a job driving a truck for the J. P. Noonan Company, then serving the company as a dispatcher, and taking the Nantucket run in his later years, where he had his own special bunk reserved for him on the ferry. One of Paul’s favorite stories of his driving days was when he braved the Blizzard of ‘78 and got the truck back to the company yard, despite the closed roads and his boss’s doubts. In addition to working hard on the road, Paul and Midge were very generous in the community, not only buying several turkeys for the church community Thanksgiving dinner, but cooking and serving them up, too. Paul was the heart and soul of the Boy Scouts as well, serving as a leader for many years, overseeing camping trips and fundraising events, and storing the Boy Scout camping equipment in the cellar. Midge and Paul loved to camp at Myles Standish State Forest and spent many wonderful days around the campfire there with family and friends. Once the boys were grown, Paul filled his time walking out back on the Pratt Farm with his four-legged buddy Rubin, and by working in the garden. Paul and Midge enjoyed breakfasts at Apazidi’s, where the servers were like family to them. Paul also was pretty good at finding time to try his luck with the scratch tickets, owing his successes to the good graces of his favorite gas station attendants. Ultimately, family was always a focal point for Paul, and he went above and beyond to make sure his kids and grandkids were taken care of. And although he loved all his siblings dearly, he was especially close to his brother, John Wright, and spent many hours playing cribbage and traveling with John and his wife Gussie. Paul filled the room with warmth and love. His big voice and giant heart always welcomed everyone into his home. Paul’s strength and love lives on in his family, children, and grandchildren, as well as the many dear family friends he and Midge held close. He will be missed, but never forgotten. May his goodness carry on in all of us. Memorial visitation will be held at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA from 3pm-6pm on Sunday, December 3, 2023.
