Peter Van Doren Schroeder

Pete Schroeder died peacefully in his sleep April 1, 2018, on his eighty sixth birthday. Despite losing the use of his legs at age 18, due to a heart operation, Pete graduated from the University of North Carolina and Harvard Business School. He worked as a contracts administrator in the defense industry, as a grants administrator for Tufts NEMCH and then as Director Sponsored Programs for Northeastern University.

All his life he was an outdoor sportsman, hunting and fishing and shooting skeet. He was also a sailor. After retiring, he spent four years cruising the eastern seaboard and the Bahamas on a Westsail that he refurbished and maintained himself, developing extensive skills and knowledge about all its systems.  In his later years he returned to another passion, training his Labradors for retriever trials, in which he competed with enough success to have a mantel covered with ribbons.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Martha Schroeder, known as Mike, his daughter Avery Wood and her husband Ned, of Bennington Vermont, his son, Richard Schroeder and his wife Susan, of Andover, Massachusetts, and grandchildren, Sarah Wood, Rimmele Wood, and Lindi Schroeder, as well as his brother Mark Schroeder of Alameda California.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Parish Hall of the Unitarian Church of Middleboro, 25 South Main St., Middleboro.
