Raymond C. Wood

Raymond C. Wood, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakeville on Monday June 1, 2026, lovingly surrounded by his family.

Born to the late Jennie (Sergi) Wood and Russell Wood, Raymond grew up on Vital Avenue and attended West Bridgewater High School.

A proud veteran, Raymond served his country in the United States Navy for six years, from 1961 to 1966. His time in the service allowed him to see the world, fostering a lifelong spirit of curiosity and creativity. Raymond was a man of many talents and diverse interests; he was a published author of seven books, the creator of a board game, and avid motorcycle enthusiast who spent years riding and loving his Harley-Davidson.

An incredibly hard worker who mastered many trades, Raymond spent his early years working at the family-owned tire shop; a business proudly passed down from his grandfather to his father. He was an entrepreneur at heart, owning and operating R. Wood Tree Service, and worked as a skilled union laborer, helping to build the Bridgewater State Prison and working at the Plymouth Power Plant. Raymond later dedicated 23 years of service to the Brockton Housing Authority, a job he truly enjoyed, before retiring in 2008.

An avid outdoorsman, Raymond loved playing softball for the Bridgewater Polish Club. He was deeply passionate about local waterways and nature preservation, spending countless hours canoeing the Hockomock Swamp, the Taunton River, and Nemasket River. His dedication to the environment led him to serve on the Middleborough Conservation Commission and participate as an active member of the Taunton River Watershed Water Alliance. He proudly shared his love for the water with the community by founding the annual S'canoe Scamper canoe races. Raymond was very into genealogy and was proud to be a direct descendent from Myles Standish and would visit Plymouth yearly on Thanksgiving.

In his well-deserved retirement, Raymond loved traveling to local car shows with his wife, proudly showing off his 1954 Ford Skyliner, for which he even won trophies during his time with the Wheels of Time Motor Enthusiast Club. Raymond also enjoyed his time spent at the Samoset Rod and Gun Club as a member playing pool and hanging with friends.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Kathleen Wood. He was the devoted father of Sherri Wood of Bridgewater and Renee Wood of Fall River. He was the cherished grandfather of Julie Lyon of Fall River, Nicole Hansen and her husband Joseph of Middleborough, Tyler Rose and his wife Eren of Mexico, and Jennifer Morasca of Boston. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Chloe, JJ, and Paisley.

Raymond is also survived by his sister, Judy Regan and her husband Bill of Foxboro; brother, David Wood and his wife Donna; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting hours for Raymond will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, from 10:00AM - 11:30AM, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347, followed by a funeral home service at 11:30AM. Raymond will be laid to rest in Central Cemetery in Halifax, MA, immediately following the funeral service.
