Robert J. Buckley, age 91, husband of the late Margareta “Peggy” Buckley and father of the late Robert J. Buckley Jr, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at his home in Lakeville, with his family by his side. Born in Boston, on Tuesday, December 30, 1930, he was the son of the late John and Christina (McClintock) Buckley.
Robert proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War era, with a rank of Corporal, and was stationed in Germany where he met his wife and was a member of the Army’s boxing team. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Robert worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters Union, Local 25. He drove for many years for Henry Jenkins and was a Shop Steward for APA from which he retired. Robert was raised in “Southie” and Dorchester, moving to Scituate in his 40’s where he resided for many years before moving to Lakeville to be closer to his family.
He loved to read, carpentry, riding his motorcycle, scuba diving, listening to music and singing along. Robert was a 30 yearlong member of “Friends of Bill”. Above all he loved spending time with his family and cherished moments with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his daughter Ann Evans and her husband Barry of Lakeville, grandchildren, Patrick Evans and his wife Patricia of Fitchburg, Jonathan Evans and his wife Krista, Matthew and Andrew Evans of Lakeville, great grandchildren Landon, Sophia, Logan, Noah, Hayden, and Liam. He was the brother of Raymond Buckley and his wife Nancy Jane of North Carolina, Irene Collarone and her husband Chris of Brockton, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his sisters Patricia Bors, Nancy Goulding, Carol Garrity, and Joan Carty, and brother Richard Buckley.
All are welcome to attend visiting hours for Robert on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00PM at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. He will be laid to rest with his late wife Peggy at a private family burial service in Scituate.
