Robert Gilmore Obituary

Robert W. Gilmore, age 88, beloved husband of the late Carol (Brill) Gilmore of Raynham, MA, passed away peacefully Wednesday December 22, 2021, at his beloved daughter Mary’s home in East Taunton, with many family and loved ones by his side following a short illness. Born on Friday May 5, 1933, in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Albert and Helen (Morello) Gilmore. Robert was the loving father of seven children; Robert Gilmore, Sr. And his wife Karen of Norfolk, MA, April O’Reilly and her husband Stephen of East Taunton, MA, Steven Gilmore and his wife Kathy of Franklin, MA, Carol Dalia and her husband James of Estero, FL, Mary Breen and her husband Michael of East Taunton, MA, Laura Hurd and her husband Ronald formerly of East Taunton, MA, and the late Michael Gilmore formerly of Readville, MA. He is also survived by his daughters in law Patricia Gilmore of Plainville, MA, and Cathy Gilmore formerly of Easton, MA. Robert was the devoted and loving “Papa” to twenty-five grandchildren and the “Great Papa” to fifty-one great grandchildren. In addition, he was the loving brother of Ronald Gilmore of Franklin, MA, and Marcia Gonsalves and her husband Gilbert of Upland, CA. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his brother, the late Edward Gilmore, formerly of La Puente, CA, and sister, the late Dorothy Eosco, formerly of Walpole, MA. Robert will be missed by many and has impacted many lives starting with his beloved wife Carol, (his girl, his love, his life). His heart beat stronger with her love and silently began to slow down the day she was called home to heaven on August 8, 2010. We can only imagine the reunion and how “Unforgettable” it must have been on that 22nd day of December 2021. His love for family was like no other and always offered a strong shoulder to lean on and always said your word should be as strong as your handshake and like a contract to withstand any contradiction and anyone who shook his hand knew he was always strong, firm yet loving. He had a smile to brighten your day when needed. He loved to travel and enjoyed meeting others on his journeys and impacted the lives of everyone he encountered with positivity and encouragement. He loved to play cribbage and was always up to teach a new player the tricks of the game with laughter and encouragement. The world was a better place and a loving soul never to be replaced. A special thank you to his loving daughter Mary and son in law Michael who gave Robert a place to call home these past few years, the comfort and love he received made their house his home until the lord called him back home to his. His career started with ServiceMaster and he loved the company and all his customers and coworkers who held a special place and remembered with a bright smile when he reflected on them. His legacy will live on for years to come and the many lives he impacted and the memories shared will be treasured by all. We thank him for his unconditional love of family, friends and strangers who he impacted with his contagious smile, laughter, and love. Known as a true family man, respected and loved and  forever will be remembered with a smile with the numbers “143”, which he started with his wife Carol to express his unconditional love for her “I Love You” and will continue for generations to come when expressing our love for him, our mom and others. Always to be remembered with love and strength with hugs and his smile to light the path of happiness in the darkest of times. We love you always, “143”.
