Roy Lin Vetter, age 72, loving husband of Noelle Rilleau, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at his home in Lakeville, MA, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born in Anderson, Indiana, on Thursday, June 1, 1950, Roy was the son of the late Roy E. and Elsie (Eustler) Vetter. Growing up in Indiana, he graduated from Madison Heights High School, class of 1968, where he was a member of the marching and concert bands playing the saxophone and bass clarinet. Roy was the first to earn a perfect score in the bass clarinet solo contest in Muncie.
Roy moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, shortly after high school. There he would become a firefighter and serve the Wilmington community for 20 years before retiring from the department. He then went to work for Duke Energy (Powerplant) in Southport, NC, for 20 years. Roy wasn’t finished there, he then put his experience at the fire department to good use as a fire suppression specialist at Simplex-Grinnell for 7 years before his retirement. Roy and his wife Noelle moved to Lakeville after a transfer that came from his time at Simplex-Grinnell. They have been residents since 2012.
Roy had many interests. He was an avid golfer, playing in numerous golf leagues and taking in as much golf as he could, no matter the form. Also, a talented bowler, he was a member of several bowling leagues over the years. Auto racing and NASCAR were other favorites of Roy’s. He was a member of NASCAR, placing in Roebling Road in Georgia in 1987.
In addition to his devoted wife Noelle, Roy is survived by his stepdaughter Katy Coppenrath and stepson Chris O’Brien of Bourne, seven grandchildren, and his many cousins and extended family in Anderson, Indiana, and North Carolina.
