Thomas Robinson, Jr. Obituary

Thomas M. Robinson, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at his home in Raynham, MA, on Tuesday September 21, 2021, at the age of 66. Tom was the beloved husband and best friend of Catherine (Smalley) Robinson for 21 years. He was the cherished father of Carly Freitas and her husband Michael of Raynham, MA, Adam Robinson and his wife Nicole of Cranston, RI, Scott Pringle and his wife Emily of Carver, MA, Robert Pringle of Taunton, MA, and Leah Pringle of Somerville, MA. He was the devoted and most entertaining “Grampa” of Nora, Ashley and Morgan Freitas, Shiloh, Samwise, Wesley and Eowyn Robinson, and Lucas and Josephine Pringle. Born on Tuesday January 25, 1955, Tom was the son of the late Thomas M. Robinson, Sr. the late Helen (Loftin) Evans, Roberta Robinson of North Carolina and Richard Evans of Arizona. He was also the brother of Kim Jordan and her husband Bill of Idaho, and the late Dale “Skip” Robinson. Tom was a graduate of Apponoquet Regional High School, Class of 1973, and earned his Bachelor of Science in law enforcement from Western New England University. He was a valued member of the community and served 24 years as a police officer for the Town of Lakeville, retiring in 2012. While serving on the force, he specialized in community safety and was instrumental in establishing and teaching public safety programs, including D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education), car seat safety, bicycle safety and senior citizen safety. He also enjoyed participating in the D.A.R.E. summer camps put on by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office for middle schoolers. In addition to his police service, Tom was a skilled carpenter and contractor. He maintained his decades long carpentry business as well as serving as Town Carpenter for the Town of Lakeville until his passing. He could always be found puttering around in his workshops and sheds, working on projects around the house and yard or wandering around a flea market looking for more treasures to bring home. Tom enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was an avid fan of Boston sports teams (especially the Red Sox) and more importantly could always be spotted on the sidelines of any activity his children or grandchildren were involved in. He played baseball and football in high school and continued playing sports (hockey, and softball) well into his middle-age years. He enjoyed the occasional golf game or fishing trip with buddies whose friendship goes back to the days of high school. He also enjoyed travelling, especially trips to Aruba.  Tom was a family man who especially enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren. He was the rock of his family and was a consistent source of support and guidance, healing all with love and humor, earning him his beloved title, “Batman”. In addition to those listed above, Tom is survived by his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Smalley of Bridgewater, MA, as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and neighbors. Visitation for Tom will be held on Wednesday September 29, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00PM at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347.
