U Maung Kyin, age 88, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday December 6, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a lengthy battle with chronic heart disease. Born in Myanmar, he was the son of the late U Kone Kee and Daw Kyin May and was the youngest of his six siblings. He grew up in Yangon and ran the sweater manufacturing factory there. He married his wife Khin Htay Myint in 1959, and eventually moved to the United States with her in 1997. He had a hobby of collecting and organizing items. He enjoyed shopping, eating out, watching Burmese movies, and listening to religious prayers as well as Burmese music. He was a Buddhist who did good deeds and made many donations throughout his life. He was a kind and gentle person who did not have the heart to even kill an insect. He has touched many lives in his 88 years, and is loved by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He spent most of his time with his wife and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. In addition to his wife Khin Htay Myint, U Maung Kyin is survived by his daughter Than Than Win and her husband Calvin Cho, son Khin Maung Latt, and his wife San San Win, daughter in law Aye Aye Lwin, grandsons Oakar Oo, Chang-Fu Chin, and Chang-Ming Chin, granddaughters May Zin Oo and her husband Aung Paing Soe, May Lwin Oo, and Miranda Cho, along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Khin Maung Oo. A funeral service was held on Thursday December 9, 2021, at 11:00AM at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street Lakeville, MA 02347. U Maung Kyin was laid to rest in Strobridge Cemetery in Lakeville following the service. A Buddhist ritual was held on Sunday December 12, 2021, in Memory of U Maung Kyin.
