Lakeville, MA - William Edward Gomes, age 87, husband of the late Audrey (Trongeau) Gomes, passed away Monday January 10, 2022, at Care One of Newton, MA, following a brief illness. Born in Middleboro on February 9, 1934, William was the son of the late William Patrick and Elsie (Charron) Gomes. William proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1951 at the age of 17 and went to basic training at Parris Island, SC, before being stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC and in the mountains of California before fighting in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and then returned home to finish his schooling at New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School where he graduated. William worked as a Tool and Die Maker for many years, ultimately retiring from Brainin Advance Industries of Attleboro in 1996. Bill loved to race stock cars at Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA in his younger years and was an avid lover of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox teams. A member of the Middleboro Hare & Rabbit Club, and Wankinquoah Rod & Gun Club, he loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing and gardening, but his true loves were shooting 3D archery and spending time with his family and friends. William is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Gomes) Corey of Surprise, AZ, son Robert Gomes and his wife Cecilia of Middleboro, son Gary Gomes and his wife Carolyn of Lakeville, stepdaughter Kathleen (Cook) Frates and her husband Wayne of Lakeville. Grandchildren, Jessica (Corey) Hathaway and Kristy Corey, Madison Gomes and Bronte Gomes, Mackenzie Gomes and Hunter Gomes, Martin Longmire and Roger Longmire, Lisa Cook and Jamie Lee Cook; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sisters Esther (Gomes) Clemmey and Elsie (Gomes) Smith. William was predeceased by his stepson Philip Cook formerly of Dedham, MA. Visitation for William will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. Immediately followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest with his late wife Audrey at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton, MA.
