Music by The Piano Brothers

Phyllis “Nina” (Goldman) Alvarez, a kind-hearted and loving matriarch, peacefully passed away on March 29th, 2020 at the age of 78 in Brockton, MA.

Phyllis was born in Boston, on April 28, 1941, to the late Ralph and Frieda (Kaufman) Goldman. She grew up with her two brothers in Dorchester, MA where she spent her days making the most of life. As she went through schooling, she found her passion for numbers. During one of her shifts at a bakery, she met the love of her life, Russell Alvarez. The couple got married on November 19, 1961 and had their own family of five children. Phyllis made sure that she worked hard to provide for her family. She held various jobs as a bookkeeper to help keep the family afloat after she lost her husband in 1979. Phyllis went on to work with her eldest daughter and son-in-law at World Publications as the Executive Vice President. Her remarkable career spanned 29 years until she retired in 2013.

Phyllis was known as someone who was selfless and put the needs of other above her own.

Her favorite thing of all was to be a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. To her cherished grandkids and great grandkids, she was affectionately known as “Nina.” She enjoyed being surrounded by those closest to her to enjoy a nice meal and a conversation filled with her uncontrollable laughter. She had many hobbies such as playing bingo, playing cribbage, cooking, reading books, or watching her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. She travelled extensively with her family and friends over the years.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Ronald, her twin brother Warren Goldman and wife Paula; her son Russell Alvarez, her daughter-in-law Kathy Alvarez, her daughter Gail Press and husband Jeffrey, her daughter Pearl Alvarez, her daughter Lisa Kirkland and husband Robert; her grandkids Samantha Amato, Melissa De La Vega, Michael Press, Ryan Alvarez, Sean Alvarez, Kyle Alvarez, and Harley Cornell; her eleven great grandkids with another on the way, and all her nieces and nephews. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Ralph and Frieda (Kaufman) Goldman, her husband Russell Alvarez, and her son Kenneth Alvarez.

The family is holding a private burial. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Residence at Five Corners at 678 Depot Street, North Easton, MA 02356 in Phyllis’s honor.

I am so sorry to hear about Phyllis passing. Although We didn’t keep in touch after I left World Publications, I have thought about her often over the years. She was a compassionate and loving woman. Please accept my condolences for your loss.
