Joette Ann “DeeDee” (Gutro) Gauss, 79 of Lakeville, MA passed away April 15, 2020 at her home in Lakeville from a long time battle of cancer.  She was the wife of William E. Gauss of 59 years.

Born in Boston she was the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Hedgkins) Gutro.  As a child and young adult she lived in Roslindale moving to Hyde Park with her husband and raised her family and moved to Lakeville for the past 10 years.  She was a homemaker and cared for her granddaughter, Ashley during the week days for 2 years, while her parents worked.  She loved to write poetry and was part of a poetry group on Facebook.  She loved and cared for natures animals at her home and loved keeping in touch with family and friends online and through social media.

DeeDee would always great you at her front door and always offer you a “Nice hot cup of tea” or a cold beverage.  She would always make you feel special.  She had a kind, loving heart and loved to make her famous Banana Bread and make extra’s for her family.  She would always walk you to the door when leaving her home and always give the best hugs!  She was one of a kind and loved by many!  Beyond being the best wife, mother, mother in-law and sister in law.  She was an amazing grandmother and great grandmother and was nicknamed DeeDee by her first grandchild Ashley.  One day Ashley grabbed her finger and called her DeeDee to take a walk one day, from that day on she was named and called DeeDee by all.  Prior to her nickname DeeDee she was called “Mother” or the Mother” by her children and their friends.

Joette is survived by 4 sons Charles “Chuck” and his wife Susan, Paul, Daryl and William, Jr “Billy” and his wife Joann; 3 grandchildren Ashley (Gauss) Spillane and her husband Timothy, Nicholas Gauss and Rachel Gauss; 3 great-grandchildren Timothy, Noah and William Spillane.  She will be missed by many family, friends, Nieces and Nephews.
